Michael Self Scores Top-Five Finish at Elko
Concord, NC (July 15, 2019) - ARCA Menards Series championship point leader Michael Self extended his lead scoring a fourth-place finish last weekend at Elko Speedway.
Already a three-time winner on tour, Self, 28, took home his ninth top-five finish in 2019 and extended his lead by 65-points over competitor Bret Holmes.
After qualifying fourth for the 250-lap event Self would keep his No. 25 Sinclair Oil Toyota in the lead pack throughout the night. Making a late race surge, Self would temporarily take over the lead but eventually fall outside the top-five after a pit stop issue with less than 50 laps to go.
With laps winding down the Utah native got back up on the wheel and settled in to the fifth position with ten laps remaining. Battling hard on the last lap Self indirectly made contact with teammate Christian Eckes who was in fourth, causing Eckes to spin ultimately putting Self in fourth position at the checkered flag.
“Right now I can’t think of anything else from this race but the last lap,” Self said afterwards. “I absolutely hate that we got into Christian on the last lap. He’s not only my teammate but he’s one of my best friends. It puts a real damper on the night.”
Self and his Sinclair Oil backed team will move onto the Hawkeye State next for Friday night’s Fans with Benefits 150 at Iowa Speedway.
