Michael Self Finishes Fourth at Chicago; Holds ARCA Points Lead
Concord, NC (June 29, 2019) - The heat was on during the ARCA Menards Series’ (ARCA) rare mid-week prime time event at Chicagoland Speedway. Battling the extreme conditions Michael Self (No. 25 Sinclair Oil Toyota) returned to the Windy City looking to defend his 2018 race win.
Self, a three-time winner on tour this season and who’s held the ARCA points lead over the last month returned to Chicagoland looking for more magic, but in the end settled for a fourth place finish and his eighth top-five of the year.
Self, who started on the pole after earning his second consecutive General Tire Pole Award and fifth of the season led during the early stages but couldn’t get things rolling in the end but left Chicago with his series points lead intact.
“I made a couple of mistakes on pit road that cost us a lot of spots,” Self said afterwards. “I left before the left rear tire was on the car on the final stop and instead of restarting fourth we restarted ninth. The last lap was a good one, the best lap I ran all night probably. I wish we could have had a couple more laps so I could do more of what we did on the last lap. It was kind of a weird race as far as this place goes. Usually you can move around a bunch and running higher or lower makes a big difference, but tonight it seemed like if you moved up it just made whatever balance issue you had worse.”
With twelve races in the books and eight remaining, Self will take a 35-point lead advantage over Bret Holmes to Minnestota when the ARCA Menards Series resumes action on Saturday, July 13 at Elko Speedway.
